Dig in to explore few of the issues, solutions and features
There's an ocean of guides to using the Divi builder for your WordPress site, one more thorough than the other, and they are all just a simple Google search away. Then there's also all the gpt robots, the AI agents, lurking in the bushes, impatiently waiting for your prompt so they can storm out to help you. If you are anything like me, you just don't have the patience to read all those blogs from start to end, to wait for a human acting deceptive bot that really only really work well if you've spent hours traininng and feeding it - plus paid for a premium subscription, but of of course! You just wanna dig into it and try it out for yourself, and it's working pretty fine, because you were born into the digital era and you are pretty sharp and savvy, maybe you learned cheat coding already to get more bottle, like a cat punishing the feeding machine, or... nah let's get back on track. The thing is, there are just smaller things that are quirky and interesting, and then the even smaller, ridiculously annoying, time consuming things can frustrate to a level of complete meltdown... Ain't nobody got time for that!
So as I build along, I'm gonna add a few issues, solutions and features I ran into on my way, that may be useful for you too. Sharing is caring, let's go!
Adding a simple poll
So I was just running through my website dummy template to temporarily fix the example texts that Divi set for me when it generated my site. Most was fairly easy to just replace with some could and could not be how the architecture should end eventually, but of course, some is still under consideration. So I just thought, "I wonder how to make a small poll, like the ones on Meta stories..." Well, this is where I turn to using AI, because that is simply just the fastest.
WP-Polls or Light Code Custom Snippet
I asked for a real time vote function, and after conversing with itself - is that real or just show??? - for 46 seconds came up with 2 solutions depending on my skills and how much time I wanted to allocate to it. To be honest, I was already passed it, so I just installed the WP-Poll to see if it worked... It's not pretty, but it IS working! I'll come back another day, code it directly into the page and fix up its pretty outdated 1998 look. Or maybe not. Fashion does seem to repeat itself – even in its most unappealing fashion! See the result here and take a vote.
Here is the prompt I used:
"I want to add a simple real time vote function on my wordpress site where website visitors can vote for the headline in the section. It should be really simple with just 2 options "Favourites" or "Catalogue", and there should be a visualisation of percentage of votes that adjusts in real time when they cast their vote. How to do it?"
Feel free to use and adjust the prompt. The WP-Poll was super simple to create and install. Just find and install the plugin, create a poll, copy the code at the top and in your Divi builder, choose section type code, paste it in the code box and you are ready to go.
